Artist Statement:

People’s Choice Winner:

"Jesus Crucifix" by Amirrah Woods, Quilcene High School (Jake Reichner)
Acrylic paint
16" X 20"
Artist Statement:

My artwork depicts a solemn crucifixion of Jesus Christ set in front of a dramatic sky that fades from soft blue to deep reddish pink, suggesting both sorrow and sacrifice. The figure of Jesus on the cross is painted with gentle, muted tones, emphasizing vulnerability and pain, while the dark wooden cross stands in stark contrast to the sky. Below, rugged mountains rise behind a field of small, colorful flowers, symbolizing hope and life continuing even in the presence of suffering. The overall mood blends grief with quiet beauty and reflection. I wanted to make something that represents the beauty in Jesus' sacrifice. Also to clarify there are small light parts on the painting due to the light from the room, it is not included in the piece.

The People’s Choice winner is determined by ballots cast by visitors to the online Olympic ESD 114 High School Art Show.  Amirrah will receive a $200 purchase award and her piece will become a permanent part of Olympic ESD 114’s High School Art Collection.
